Default Hot Springs Fly-In/Bivouac - August 6-8

The Hot Springs Fly-In and Bivouac is just around the corner!
The Mission Number for this event is: 10-VA-1243.

At this time we are planning on departing Roanoke on Friday evening (approximately 5pm) and returning early afternoon on Sunday (approximately 2pm).

The schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Friday night: Depart Landmark Aviation (at ROA Airport) for Hot Springs and carpool/caravan to the Hot Springs Airport. Arrive and set up camp. Dinner. After dinner, the cadets can conduct exercises as desired. There will also be a FLM F&P training course held.

Saturday: 7am wakeup. Breakfast (we will cook our own this year). Assist in setting up the open house/airshow/carshow/fly-in/extravaganza. We will be running the flight line and assisting with crowd control, parking, and other activities as necessary in a similar matter as last year. We will also have a static recruiting display. Following the airshow, we will help recover the airport to normal operations/clean up. Cadet o-rides will be conducted schedule and weather permitting. ES training and other activities/games in the evening.

Sunday: Wakeup and breakfast. Cadet O-rides, 2-3 hours of ES Training (field and/or classroom tasks as necessary based on attendees and evaluators present). Packup and depart around noon.

We will be providing our own food for the entire duration. The menu will be determined in the near future, but will probably be easy "camp food" such as spaghetti, salad, pancakes, sandwiches, etc. Open flame (campfires) are not allowed on the airport so everything will have to be cooked on propane grill/camp stove or cold. The cost of food for the weekend will be split by all attendees (unless you are bringing your own food) and is expected to be about $20/person for two dinners, two breakfasts, and one lunch.

Packing list:

Clothing for the weekend
Friday and Sunday: Civilian clothes (except flight crew)
Saturday: BDU's or Blue Golf Shirt

Tent or Tarp to sleep under (unless you have other sleeping arrangments like inside a vehicle
Sleeping Bag and mat
CAP 24 hour pack/equipment for use during ES training
Canteen/water bottle/hydration pack
Safety Vests and Flight Line Gear (if you have it)
Notebook & Pen

I suppose I will go to drive the van and other tasks as required. The back seat of the van is reserved for me. Every good wish.

My brother and I would like to attend. We have a camp stove thing, as well as other possible camping-ish things that we could bring if needed. I'll look around...

Thank you for this information!

C/SMSgt David Bell and C/MSgt Charles Bell will be attending. We will ride in the squadron van and stay for all three days.

We do have a 1 burner butane camp stove that you are welcome to, but we would rather not bring it along unless it will be used. Let me know.

I may be able to go but it is right after my week at camp. If I did go, I would go on the squadron van and attend all three days. My family has a lot of camping stuff so if you need anything it might be arranged for me to bring it.
